Daddy's Womb | Teen Ink

Daddy's Womb MAG

April 23, 2008
By Anonymous

i asked my father if i could swim,
and he said that i would drown.
The Sea would imprison me – he said
if my feet had left the ground.

So i walked out to the water,
and cried out – how ’bout now!
He said, a little bit further, Son,
and then you’ll leave the ground.

i stepped on sand then stone,
from hollow ground to sturdy.
The sky was at my level as I
gazed at the birdie.

The Sea brought me a new idea,
the urge to flee to the high.

i asked my Father if i could fly,
and he said, sure, Son – go try.

i jumped as high as i could.
Still, i landed on the ground.
i saw my Father pull on a chain,
then i knew that i was bound.

I really like this poem... I really really like the message. at least how I understand it, the father is protecting the son from what might hurt him while still encouraging him to grow... like a baby in the womb. idk if that's what you meant, but that's what I got and I really love it. thank you for writing this.

The road to you is hard, bumpy, and full of holes but its worth getting to know the real you.

I love your writing!! Can you, or anyone, look at my poems and give me pointers for improvement?

It's a great poem with a great rhyme scheme, however, I don't understand whats going on in the poem. Did the father lie to him, did the father trick him?

AMAZING POEM!!! The only thing that I would recommend is correcting some simple grammar.
