Does he Hear me?

Does he hear me?
Is he listening when he sits patiently wagging his tail?
or is my voice a blur of words that cannot be processed?
Does he understand me?
Is he interpreting everything I say?
or just pretending with his kind, brown eyes?
Does he care?
Is what I say redundant in a dog’s mind?
or does it make his life more satisfying and whole?
Does it matter?
Is it more important to just know that he’s there?
or know that he’s truly paying attention?
